It basically means the PICAXE has not responded as expected during a download. The most likely cause is a power supply issue. If using batteries to power the PICAXE try with a fresh set of batteries.

I am using an AT power supply. I have just measured the output, it is 5v precisely.

Everything was working perfectly when I switched it off last night. When I switched on today, nothing worked at all. After switching on and off several times it started to work, but not as expected.
When I tried to download the program again I got this error message.

Do not use a computer style power supply if having problems. They often have a lot of ripple and do not regulate well on small current draw.
Switch to 3xAA and see if the problem goes away.

Verification errors are almost always power supply related.

It`s working now. I have no idea what happened.

I was using batteries, but they went flat in no time. When the circuit is in it`s final position it will have to use a power supply.
