Use of BAS800 serial PIC programmer

Please can anyone help me ? Am I understanding this correctly? I see that there is available a serial PIC programmer (BAS800) which can be used to program the normal PIC range of controllers. Can you program these using the standard basic supplied for picaxe? The PIC microcontrollers don't have any bootstrapped code in them so how does it work? Sorry I'm really new to all of this but if it means that I can go on to work with chips like the PIC16F84A that would give nice progression - am I reading this right?.

Only a restricted range of PICAXE Basic commands and functionality is supported by the BAS800 conversion software.

The best place to start is with the Assembler help, from the Programming Editor menu bar, Help->Assembler datasheets...

Then a Forum Search on "assembler" will give further information on specifics.
