Serial download question

Hi
Having a problem downloading to a picaxe 18x with a 5v regulated supply. I keep getting an Error-EEPROM verification failed. However it works if I reduce the supply to 3.5v. My question is if I used the enhanced serial download circuit will this solve the problem?

Probably not.

I'm not sure what the problem is with using 5V but presume it's because you are using a laptop, which is using 0V/5V for a serial signal rather than the standard +/-12V ?

Is it then the case that the 5V through the download circuit doesn't provide enough voltage to reliably detect serial input ? If so, slightly reducing the 22K resitor may probably help more.

I fully agree with Hippy.
Just to emphasise a point, the "enhanced serial download circuit" has absolutely nothing to do with helping to download programs. It is purely to prevent negative current entering the PICAXE which can upset analog inputs.
