As for the other bits... I have a 4 x 4 keypad of which the outputs are encoded into binary and fed into an encoder ready to be transmitted. Once transmitted they are received and decoded back to binary. It is this binary that is being input into inputs 0 - 3 of the PICAXE.

Can you upload the circuit for you switch to encoder circuit feedeing the PICAXE inputs?

Are you using a chip such as the 74C922 as the keypad encoder?

Are you sure that part of the ciruit is working correctly?

I think I may have worked it out. On one of the circuits I am sinking the LEDs and on the other I am sourcing. So obviously I am not inputting what the LEDs are displaying on the receiver into the PICAXE. I just need to treat lab15 as button press 1 input 0000 and lab0 as button press D input 1111.
