Read ADC problems

I have a problem in that my 14M2 connected to an XBee doesn't read ADC accurately unless connected to a computer via the AXE Connector cable.

I dont understand why this is happening and it would be great if you guys could help.
I personally use visual basic becaus I'm a pleb, this is the program im using.

The problem reads like it's related to the interconnection of the PICAXE board to the peripherals (analogue source being measured the XBee module. Can you provide a circuit diagram of the interconnections, including power source/s? A hand drawing scanned (or) photographed and uploaded will suffice.

Looking at the flowchart, you seem to be reading from four different ADC pins. As inglewoodpete suggests; a circuit diagram or a detailed description of how you have things connected will help.

This suggests a possible grounding problem where a good common ground is only supplied when the cable is connected.
