IS it possible to take input from a typical microphone that you plug into your computer? Would it be possibly to play that useing a simmilar speaker? I'm confused about how they work.

Sorry but you will need to be more exact about what you want to do.

The audio signal from the microphone will need amplifying after that it depends on what you want the signal to do.

The output from a picaxe isn't analogue in nature as sound is so a faithful reproduction of an audio input isn't possible.

If you are thinking of using the PICAXE as an audio recording and playback device it will not be possible to do that by itself although it could control audio recording and playback devices.

If you wish to have the PICAXE respond to audio activation ( hand-clap, whistle ) that would be possible with a suitable amplifier and detector circuit. Voice recognition could also be possible with suitable external hardware but the PICAXE cannot do that by itself.
