there is no way the 20x2 can be speed up with external resonators? I cannot decipher the manual with this.

Is the max. speed 64MHz and that is only internal??

The 20x2 has no pins reserved for a resonator or crystal.

The 20X2 only has internal crystal operation and allows operation up to 64MHz.

Even if you could attach an external crystal or resonator that would only give a more accurate clock speed, not any increase in speed.

The best thing to do is get a copy of the Microchip PIC datasheet for the PICAXE chip you are using or wanting to use. This gives you a bit more background into the electrical characteristics (amongst other things). 64MHz is pretty fast, though, that's what I'm running mine at for a display project.
