Installing Axe drivers on all network computers without a download cable plugged in

Hello,

Is it possible to install the Axe drivers over a network to all computers without having the axe cable plugged in - so that we can use cables in any computer room, but keep the cables locked away.

thanks

Depends on how you are managing your computers - if you are distributing image files (using Ghost, for example) then just install on your master machine used to create images.

Another way would be to copy the AXE drivers to a network share and point to it when each machine is first used with AXE cable.

the axe drivers are already on a net share, but cannot be installed by students - only administrators.
Is there a way to install the drivers without having a cable connected?

No, due to the historical way Windows allocates a different virtual COM port per USB location the cable needs to be physically in the computer for the installation, so that Windows can also id the desired USB location. This is also the reason the installer must be re-run even if you plug the cable into a different USB socket on the same computer.

In a school network installation we recommend the cable is always used in the same socket on every computer, e.g. top/left USB socket as appropriate, for the same reason. Its a one time setup, but does require someone to physically plug the cable into the actual computer.
