Hi

Transmission of DMX using the X2 chips overclocked to the max is possibly theoretically possible, reception may be more difficult.

With the plethora of PIC, AVR and other microcontroller projects available elsewhere, they are probably a better option. Jaycar Electronics has kits available.

The DMX512 protocol is very easy to understand and there is plenty of info on the interweb about it.

As MartinM56 suggests, do a search on this forum for some interesting and enlightening discussion.

Cheers

Transmitting USITT DMX-512 (1990) is possible using a PICAXE X1 or X2 at standard operating speeds and even an 18X can be used but will be limited in capability. Receiving will be more difficult and require an X1 or X2 and may require external hardware assistance.

How feasible using a PICAXE will be depends on what it is you are hoping to achieve; a small lighting control desk or light chaser should be fairly straight forward, a dimmer rack could be quite an effort if it is possible.
