Just out of curiosity, does anyone else here use only a DB9 cable from the COM port, or do you all use USB ?
At home I am running PE6 under XP with an RS232 (AXE026) cable connected to COM1.

They couldn't see how the PE6 could run with out a driver of some sort.
PE6 itself does not require any drivers; it simply asks Windows to open a COM port and Windows obliges if the port is available for use.

The COM ports do need drivers so that Windows can recognise them and interact with them but, for a bult-in RS232 serial port, those drivers are included as part of Windows and are automatically selected when the PC recognises the hardware for those COM ports is present during installation of Windows.

I use both old 9 pin serial to phone plug and same 9 pin serial to phone cable plugged into USB to 9 pin adaptor... ;-0

Premelec,

Already done it.

But just to be sure did it again.

Results.

From device manager.

Ports (COM & LPT)

Communications Port (COM1)
ECP Printer Port (LPT1)

This device is working properly.

Device usage: Use this device (enable)

Clicked OK.

Did another loopback test. Failed as before.

I will try to get hold of another computer to try this on.

Dave.

Almost a year since last visit.

A quick update.

I finally bit the bullet and purchased a USB cable.

All working fine now.

One day I will go back and sort out the original problem; no hurry now.

Thanks for all your help in the past.

Dave.
