Most designs for parallel bus LCDs are based on their own rigid requirements for connecting the LCD to a PICAXE.

An alternate and more flexible design can be found here. It allows the 6 control connections to be made to any PICAXE output pin. The pins can then be defined in the definitions part of the software file (as Symbols) that is downloaded to the PICAXE.
