Cheap robust breadboard components : OT

I needed a 10uF ceramic capacitor for a circuit I was breadboarding. These don't exist in a leaded package but I had some 1206 and 1210 SMD versions.

I realised that the pitch on these is a perfect match for a standard 0.1" 2 pin header.

I used a small crocodile clip to hold the capacitor to the header while soldering the first side and then removed it to complete the soldering.

This has the advantage over a leaded component that the electrical connection to the breadboard is much more secure.

There is a pretty full range of SMD capacitors and resistors in the 1206 package and SMD components are very cheap compared to leaded.

Hope this idea is of use

That's a great idea... much better approach than when I used ten 1uF leaded ceramic caps to make up 10uF for a voltage reg circuit i breadboarded a few weeks ago HAHA
