Those 2 metal rods simply hold the 2 motor assemblies together, is that right?

So you simply want to connect your wooden box firmly on top of those rods, yes/no?

If so, can't you get some blocks that look like anti-roll bar bushes as used in cars?
The bottom 'half' screws to chassis and the top bolts on and squeezes a tough rubber bush onto the bar. They may need a little mod as you don't want any sliding. A drilled hole and pin would sort that.
Looks a bit like those conduit/pipe mounting brackets except much stronger.

It does sound like a superb idea, so I want to drill holes inside the rods and palce a pin to prevent sliding, good good. And an anti-roll bar bush. Hmmm, I searched and yielded inconclusive results, are their better terms to use?

They look a bit like that bearing block that Andrew posted, but there is no proper 'bearing' and they just squash up as you screw them up.

Tried a car scrapyard? There must be zillions of similar mounting blocks.

Do you have a pillar drill/mill and a hacksaw?
Lump of metal , 3 holes, hacksaw - 20 minutes.

Use the old imag a bit
