Cannot find AXE027

I am doing a PICAXE installation on a friend’s computer. The AXE027 has been installed correctly. I can go to device manager, click on USB controllers and see the ‘AXE027 PICAXE USB’ appear and disappear as I plug the cable in and out. Right click on it and select properties and read ‘This device is working properly.’

If I then open the current Picaxe Editor 6.0.8.7 and select settings then com port the display shows in grey ‘none available’. Refresh does nothing. I also have tried a known good AXE027.

What am I missing?

You may not have finished the driver installation, as the AXE027 must also appear in the 'Ports COM & LPT' section, not just 'usb controllers' section. Look for any 'unknown devices' called AXE027 PICAXE USB or 'USB serial port' or similar. Right click on them and update their driver from the AXE027 driver download folder.
