Can I make the MOD001 bugy go faster

I have made up several MOD001/CHI007 Buggies. They all work and can be programmed - the problem is that the elastic band wheels seem to be very selective on the type of surface the work on and the speed seems very sluggish.

Is there a good alternative to the wheels?
How do I make the buggy go faster?

Thanks.

To make it go faster:

Increase the voltage to the motors:
- Just to the motors and not to the PIC - this requires some hacking.
- May reduce motor life.

Replace the motors/gearboxes:
- May use more current than the board can handle.
- Requires lots of work

Upgrade the wheels:
- Larger diameter wheels = faster (although more current).
- Larger wheels = less stable (a castor at the front/back needed, perhaps?

Are you using four new AAs? Using rechargeable batteries will give a slower top speed (compared to new non-rechargable cells).
