I will go through the forum post you linked so I understand more about what could be the problem. I have run the 4 commands you suggested, I think it's shifted the issue onto something else...
I'm wondering if there is a bunch of 32-bit stuff I don't have on my machine. libgthread-2.0.so.0 is there but I get the original unhelpful error message...
This isn't terminal for my picaxe days as I do have an old laptop I can run PE6 on.
