Surface mount repair

Is there any hope of a successful repair of my DPScope? The USB connector has come off. My soldering skill and equipment are well suited to 0.1 inch stripboard but I don't know where to start with this. Any tips or should I get out the spare?

I think it suffered from being stored in a place subject to rummaging with the USB cable attached.

If you want to do it your self, you should have a desoldering wick and flux available.

1) Flux the pads of the micro-usb on the PCB and use the desoldering wick to remove the solder. Mind you, the solder used could be lead-free, so in order to make things easier, you should mix some leaded solder on the pads along with the lead-free solder using your soldering iron and then remove it using the desoldering wick.

2) Clean the pads with IPO and put some flux. Place the micro-usb port on the pad and prepare your soldering iron with some solder. First, try to solder the 'usb' pads before going to the anchor pads (the big ones left and right).
You main problem is to make sure you don't short the pads with lead. I use a microscope for that.

A phone repair shop, as suggested by Buzby, is a good alternative.
