Problems with the AXE027 driver in Win 7

Hi. I have been working with PX and pe06 on a complex multi-controller project. I do not have a dedicated Windows machine, so I have been using a Windows 7 virtual machine under Parallels on an Intel Apple Mac. All successful.

My problem is that pe06 in the Windows VM keeps 'forgetting' the AXE027 driver. The various descriptions for how to install/reinstall the AXE027 driver are contradictory, and none of them seem to work here.

Can anyone provide me with instructions on how to reinstall the driver in W7, from the starting point of having a working pe06 and the driver download?

Page 5 onwards of the outdated https://picaxe.com/docs/axe027_old.pdf explains Windows 7.

The main issue with the VM on a Mac can be that if you leave the cable in when using the computer 'as a Mac' the apple os will take control of the USB device via the default apple driver (and so the device is no longer available to the VM). So ideally you want to only physically insert/remove the cable when working inside the VM.

Thanks. Yes, I see what you mean, and since posting the query I'd found the correct installation document. I have set Parallels to 'always ask' when it detects a new USB device, and removed all the existing bindings to be sure, but it still/no longer pops up the query of which VM to assign the AXE027 to when I plug it in – in fact nothing happens. So in the W7 VM, Windows still does not see the AXE027 – it does not appear in the 'Devices and Printers' panel even after W7 has completed its device search. So step 2 on page 6 of the installation guide fails.

I do not understand this, as it's all been working well up to now. Unfortunately, the W7 VM in which it worked destroyed itself somehow, and now I've reverted to a backup I get the problems I've described.

Breakthrough! By merely shifting the AXE027 to a different USB port on the host computer, Parallels correcly then asked me which VM it should be allocated to, and the AXE027 then popped up in W7's 'Devices and Printers' window.

Why it didn't work when I was adhereing to the 'always use the same port' direction, I have no idea. But thanks for your help.
