PICAXE transfer protocol for Mac/Linux ports?

Is there any information available regarding the data and protocol used to transfer data to a PICAXE chip? My particular interest is in developing software for platforms other than Windows for myself, and all those I see begging on the forums :)
I imagine that the raw BASIC code is compiled in the programmer software before downloading to the chip? Any details available for this or is it all top-secret proprietary stuff?? Technical wish to reply? :)

More information about the protocol, or the lack thereof, can be found using the search function for these forums.

The tokenised program form and download protocols are both &quot;proprietory information&quot;, and Rev-Ed have not released details of either into the public domain.

That's disappointing to hear.. after all Rev-Ed give away there development software, so it's not like it would affect software revenue. I'd think it could only boost sales of what they would make money out of (boards, chips, accessories, etc), as more people would be able/willing to use there products.

A bit of Mac discussion on the main PICAXE forum: <A href='http://www.rev-ed.co.uk/picaxe/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=3256&amp;forum_id=19&amp;Topic_Title=can+any+one+make+a+proggrammer+for+mac+os+x%3F&amp;forum_title=PICAXE+Forum&amp;M=True&amp;S=True' Target=_Blank>External Web Link</a>

Thanks ypl88.. already active in the other thread :)

With regards to software revenue, I meant that it doesn't look like Rev-Ed make dollars (pounds) out of there software, so opening that up shouldn't affect there income. Obviously Rev-Ed would want to keep the contents of there PICAXE chips confidential, but I'm not sure it helps them, or others, to keep the computer based software closed.
