Noob Question: Darlington Drivers

variable

New Member
Hello Experts,

this might be a very noob question, I am trying to drive a 3v motor by a 08m chip, and I got told to use a darlington driver to drive the motor. I did some googling on darlington, it says it's a amplifier or some sort, could anyone please advise what actually a darlington driver is? and how do I connect to my chip to drive the motor?

Regards

A darlington is about the worst choice there is, other than a vacuum tube. :D

It is 2 transistors connected so the gains multiply. But it never really saturates,
on voltage drop can be 2V. I used a triple darlington decades ago, could control 1000A with a cmos logic gate, but not efficient, like FET's, which you
should use. Try the ZVN4206A.

As jglen points out, a darlington is not the best choice for your application.
Their design requires a much larger volt-drop (loss of volts) to work. In many cases this is not a problem but driving a 3v motor from a supply not much greater than 3v could result in not enough volts to even make the motor work.
