Advice for programming PIC 16F627

I am completely unexperienced with using PIC microcontrollers. I am studying technology GCSE in which we are using PIC 16F627 microcontroller. I am currently trying to download a simple timing programme onto my chip using PIC logicator V3. I have purchased a univeral PIC programmer from techsupplies.co.uk. It is suppossed to be compatiable with PIC logicator. I have several questions about how to go about programming my PIC chip. Firstly I am unable to select the 16F627 or any type of PIC (not PICAXE) chip on the software. (I am only using trial version of software.) I have tried downloading to my chip using a PIXACE chip with the same number of inputs and outputs as my 16F627 but has not worked. I do not believe that it is a problem with the connecion from the programmer to the computer as the programme, 'serial PIC programmer,' is able to recognise my programmer. Help would be much appreciated.

Based upon what has been indicated today in another thread, you cannot access the PIC chips, only PICAXE chips, with the unregistered version.

From another thread on this forum, Technical (from Rev Ed) has also indicated that the un registered version only allows 5 flowsheet cells and does not permit use of the save or print functions

More information on programming PICmicros with Logicator for PIC and PICAXE can be found in this thread -

http://www.picaxeforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11290

And in the answer to your question in this later thread -

I believe the restrictions on numbers of cells, saving and printing only applies to earlier versions of Logicator not the current shareware version. That's based upon my using an unregistered / shareware version which doesn't appear to have those restrictions.
