Many projects on this forum are destined for use in cars with little thought about the electrical environment.
Many replies point these issues out and how to make the regulator cope.
This circuit is one of the simplest solutions I've seen to-date.

Prolly some useful info there. But I’m unable to see it coz of the advert overkill. I hate that site. I’ll just have to muddle through without it I guess.

You might try the "pdf" alternative located here. Although ads are still there (only on the left and can easily be ignored), the complete article + schematic can be viewed without distraction.

Or the LM2940 or similar families of LDO Regulators specifically designed for Automotive circuits could be used.
