It's a commerical package so, yes, you do have to pay for it. There is a free demonstration version but that probably has limitations.

The only legitimate ways I can think of to get the product for free would be to get someone else to pay for it or contact the manufacturer and ask for a free copy. If you can provide reasonable justification they may oblige. You may be able to find someone who already has a copy of the product which they can transfer to you if their license agreement allows that.

After some digging, perhaps not ...

http://www.t4.ie/newspage_economatics.html

"J Twizell and G Martin were appointed Joint Administrators of the Company on 23 January 2008 ... On 21 February 2008, a sale of the Education line of the business was effected to the TAG Learning group, who may be contacted at www.taglearning.com, at the normal web site www.economatics-education.co.uk or on 0114 269 9280".

The new site seems to be a modified copy of the old, no mention of takeover and lots of links to the old site URL. Guess we'll have to wait and see what the future holds for that part of the business.

Logicator for PIC and PICAXE V3 announced.

We are pleased to announce version 3 of the 'Logicator for PIC and PICAXE micros' software. This is the new, fully updated, version of PIC-Logicator (the name change has been necessary for Microchip registered trademark issues).

Economatics (Education) went into administration a couple of months back, unfortunately dragged down by their larger Economatics (Industrial) parent company. The group has since been broken up by the administrator and the education wing has since been acquired by Tag Learning Ltd, who are continuing trading under the same Economatics Education name and will continue with most Economatics products.

However the 'Logicator for PICs' software product is now developed, published, supported and sold directly by Revolution Education Ltd. We are fully commited to the product and our developers have spent the last 8 weeks fully updating and enhancing the source code to add new features and support for the more modern PICAXEs (14M, 20M, 28X1, 40X1 etc).

Full details are here:
http://www.rev-ed.co.uk/docs/cat_07.pdf

The product is available for order now, and will start shipping the week commencing 7th April.

To answer the initial forum question:
1) If you are a school student, and your school has purchased the 'site licence + student home user add-on licence' you can ask your school teacher for a free copy of the software to use at home.
2) otherwise anyone can purchase an individual single user licence for £15 + VAT (if in EU) + carriage.

Version 3 does support the use of the AXE027 PICAXE USB download cable, aswell as support for the new chips such as the 20M, 28X1 etc.
