Program download via NFC (Near Field Communication)

Dear all,

I've come so far as to test wireless chargers for my little car models. While I'm installing the receiver coils anyway, it got me thinking if I should try and move the program download from my improvised 3-pin connector to something a lot more convenient - NFC (Near Field Communication).

There are ICs that convert and amplify the signal to and from the coils like this one for the receiver end http://www.ti.com/lit/ml/spat182/spat182.pdf and probably many others that I still have to look into.

But first things first - has anyone tried similar and is there anything obviously wrong with the idea?

Thank you for your time,

Edmunds

I would expect all sorts of problems due to the way the download protocol works. You need to assert a break signal to the PICAXE until it acknowledges the download. Not sure how simultaneous bi-directional comms could be achieved using NFC. Wireless downloading through a URF / ERF is only possible because there is special firmware in each.
