Using the AMIS-30622 Stepper Motor Driver IC

Having spent some time over the weekend experimenting with the very versatile
On Electronics AMIS-30622 i2c comms controlled micro-stepping motor driver IC,
I provide the following notes and some example code for others to make reference to in future.

The 50 page datasheet for this IC can be found at:
http://www.onsemi.com/pub_link/Collateral/30622-D.PDF

Obviously there are more commands that can be used than those in the attached program code but it provides a useful starting point.

My experiments were undertaken using a 48 step/revolution Solen Electric Co stepping motor type STM-4048S202 having a current rating of 400 mA.
This was purchased last year from Jaycar in Aust but checking the Solen website, the model number is not listed (a google search does find some references). The motor is a unipolar type but was used as a bipolar motor with each coil having a total resistance of 32 Ohms. The motor ran unloaded with the current limit adjusted down to 141 mA. It may run at even lower current settings in the unloaded state.

Hi westy,

that chip seems far more useful in many ways than a L293D and could take a fair programming/control load off the picaxe chip.
the continuous rotation mode is very interesting concept.

Where did you source the chip?
