How to isolate from high voltages

Appreciate all for the helpful input. I know now why I became a mechanical engineer vs electrical. Based on above I am going to change my strategy to try to detect the electric field or use neons to supply the logic to change the fuses. Thanks

How to isolate from high voltages

Not familiar with Capacitive Potential Divider but I will research. Can you comment on proposed opto coupler use below?

How to isolate from high voltages

one fuse is in series with the 115V supply as it first enters the charger. the other is is just before the output to the fence wire

How to isolate from high voltages

I had not thought of that. Actually hand manual fence checkers do use a neon , or several neon bulbs with different resistors and a ground wire to stick into the ground to show the strength of the voltage pulse.

How to isolate from high voltages

Some background. Plug in livestock electric fence chargers have to be protected from voltage surges(usually lightening related) coming in on the 115V side (1/2-1 amp, 240V fuse) and back through the fence side (1amp, 240V). When a storm comes through and if it blows a fuse; you could be...

How to isolate from high voltages

Each hour I am checking a fuse to see if it is blown or not. I send a short duration voltage out and during this same duration look for the in pin being "high". All works well with the strategy until I actually turn on power to the fuse side. Yes (and I laughed as well) the chip smoked. 1. My...

Clarification: Pg16 of Microcontroller Interfacing Circuits-Stepper Mtr

Problem Resolved. Went back to 4 step vs eight step AND TIED DOWN THAT SERIAL IN PIN( a freshman mistake) Thanks all.

Clarification: Pg16 of Microcontroller Interfacing Circuits-Stepper Mtr

So instead of using the Toggle command to abbreviate the coding -not competent enough to really understand yet, I wanted to start off programming all four coils independently to learn how to do it. The driver board which came with the motor referenced above has a plug for the motor which has...

Clarification: Pg16 of Microcontroller Interfacing Circuits-Stepper Mtr

Looking at the diagram of the ULN2003; can someone explain what the notations "To 11,To10,To 4, and To1" are referencing? Also are the two bottom pins the supply to the motor? And finally shed some light on #6 out and #7 out? The motor is the 28BYJ-48. My first intro to steppers. Thanks

Alarm buzzer through MOSFET will not work .

Works when after I installed 200ohm resister in series with buzzer.

Alarm buzzer through MOSFET will not work .

I am just not sure of the amp draw. I assumed it would be more than the output pin could handle. You make a good point though-I may try to test it.

Alarm buzzer through MOSFET will not work .

I checked the voltage across the the buzzer: -.237V when the MOSFET gate has 0V and same -.237V when the Gate has 4.75V from the 20M2 output pin. swapped buzzer leads and same thing. I am thinking to trash buzzer and buy a piezo unless there is an alternate transistor or reed switch that will...

Alarm buzzer through MOSFET will not work .

I know this is going to be a generalized discussion but I am trying to get a read on whether my thoughts on the problem could be valid. First of all voltage is 4.75V. 20M2 B.6 pin is outputting to MOSFET gate. MOSFET is switching on. With no load through Drain/ Source the voltage is 4.75V when...

    Voltage changes program execution-How

Good stuff. All of you are teaching me a lot. I think one of the most important thing is to always use good design practices to increase the robustness. I will incorporate Logic Level MOSFET's instead of power MOSFET's. I now understand the stray LED blip on start up that is not associated with...

    Voltage changes program execution-How

Not been to that part of England but pics are beautiful. How did you come up with the value of C1-experience? Why would you need C2 then as it would be overshadowed by C1? Note I did not use electrolytic capacitors-does that matter? Also testing on the breadboard the MOSFET gate drained off...

    Voltage changes program execution-How

I wanted to report back that I finally had a chance to get my blinker back on the table; one, because when I dropped the voltage to the 08M2 chip it dropped the voltage to the MOSFET gate as well and I am thinking gate voltage influences current flow-thus not as bright a LED flash; second...

    Voltage changes program execution-How

I appreciate all the detail recommendations all are giving. I for sure will incorporate the cleaned up code. Also since sucking solder and re soldering kind of SUCKS; I took one of above's advice and rewired to run the chip and everything associated with it on 3 batteries(4.2V). I left the...

    Voltage changes program execution-How

Thanks all- I drew the circuit wrong. Each mosfet gate is connected straight to its own output pin. Also, considering stabilizing the voltage to the LDR; I am thinking about just purchasing a voltage regulator card to supply 5V or 3V from batteries to run everything but the LED's. Any comments...

    Voltage changes program execution-How

Yes I did but could not get it to work. However, after I aborted using RanNo it performed as it should. Also recently I even switched the original chip out. It hits on the FlashWR every cycle versus another combination. I can hook up to a 4.8V supply and it sequences as the code reads-correctly.
