I'm using an 08M chip. Input is going to be received from a sensor currently running on 12V. Hence, low=0V and high=12V Will the 12V output value be safe to put onto the input for the PICAXE, or should I drop it down some way?

Just a quickie: Would it be just within tolerances to run the PICAXE 08M off a 6V supply? If not, would it be fine to drop the 6V source to 5V by using a resistor? I've only got L7806C regulators on hand, hence the question. Cheers in advance
