For smaller SO-chips I use a normal IC-socked. I can even add a 100nF capacitor across the power-leads. After soldering I use hotmeld glue to strengthen.
I also used de DS3232N for a RTC. It is on the same I2C-bus as an 24LC512 EEPROM. I programmed the correct time almost 1 year ago. It's now off for some 15 seconds, it's incredible. With a steady hand I soldered the SO20 chip of the DS3232 and the SO16 chip of the DS3231 to a 8pin IC-socket. I...
Originally when the PICAXE-18M2 was announced there was information that the 18M2 would be equipped with HPWM-support and also three PWM-outputs. The datasheet of the PIC16F1827 also mentions a number of PWM-outputs and HPWM.
