hardware not found in COM1

I download the Programming editor, it does not work in my home PC , it says "Error-hardware not found in COM1",(it work fine in my PC at work, so there is no problem with the cable or file downloaded).

I checked both Bios and device manager, COM1 is enabled.

Then I download the "Microsoft Installer update (instmsiw.exe) and then restart the computer."

I clicked the instmsiw.exe for Windows 2000, nothing happen. I put it into a seperate folder, click and still nothing happen.

Please tell me where is the problem?

(Both my work and home PC are Windows 2000, service Pack3, both show the same driver files in device manager. My home PC is AMD2800, while work PC is Intel)

Make sure the correct serial port is selected via the View>Options menu.

Make sure no other software (e.g.Palm Hotsync, other PDA, interactive whiteboard etc.) software service is already scanning serial port.
