USB to serial convertors and Picaxe

I have a Compaq NX9110 notebook, this does not come with an onboard serial port (who knows why), I bought a Targus USB to serial convertor to get around the problem of loading the Picaxe from the PC.

I find the software (ver 4.1.5) does not like the port and reports an error, (battery flat or not connected).

Does any one have a solution other than the changing of computers....

Check the manufacturers website to make sure there is not an updated driver for your USB adapter, you normally have to run special drivers for each os (95, 98 XP etc).

The USB adapter is configured under Windows itself (not the Programming Editor). Therefore it is likely to be a driver error.

Our USB adapter, part USB010, is 100% reliable if the correct driver is used. We use them for most of the computers in the office here all the time.
