PDA software and Picaxe Program Editor

I have the minimum picaxe-08 on a breadboard. The program editor doesn't see the 08, although an LED on the 10k / 22k divider shows serial data on the wire. I've checked the breadboard several times, everything looks fine.
So next, I'm going thru the download checklist. One item applies to my setup: "No conflicting serial port software running on computer (in particular PDA type ‘hotsync’ software"
I take it that this means Palm Pilot's hotsync program is not running at the moment, correct? Or does it mean that it can't even be installed on the computer? Thanks.

Not running (as it does automatically on computer starup). Make sure there is no icon in your Windows taskbar.

Have you got the 10k/22k around the correct way - they are *not* a potential divider - see the manual part 1.

Right, no icon in tray. The resistors look correct, as you say it is not in a potential divider configuration.

I will followup in the general forum, now that it appears like a hardware issue.
